Pippi Longstocking: Lauren Child style
Pippi making gingerbreadText pages are broken up with irresistible quirky details

Pippi Longstocking

“Pippi lives in Villa Villekulla with a horse, a monkey, and a big suitcase full of gold coins. The grown-ups in her village try to make Pippi behave in ways that they think a little girl should, but Pippi has other ideas. She would much rather spend her days arranging wild, exciting adventures to enjoy with her neighbours, Tommy and Annika, or entertaining everyone she meets with her outrageous stories. Pippi thinks nothing of wrestling a circus strongman, dancing a polka with burglars, or tugging a bull’s tail and her wildly unconventional lifestyle is matched by Lauren’s free-spirited illustrations.” - OUP Oxford Publishers

Product Description

This is a particularly gorgeous book – it’s a small paperback gift edition – and the matching of Pippi and illustrator Lauren Child is genius. I’m more Clarice Bean than Charlie and Lola, so seeing Child return to this older age group and the fun she has playing with text and image is delightful.

Reading a chapter to my six year old has been great fun and we’ve both laughed out loud as much as one another. It’s a keeper, one for her bedside table and more than a little bit special.

Don’t let the girls name fool you though, this isn’t a girly girl book. If your boy can get past the front cover then Pippi’s bold, brave and funny manner will have them laughing just as much.

“Pippi lives with a monkey. All on her own with no mum or dad. But she’s really happy that she moved into Villa Villekulla – that’s the name of her house. I love it, it’s very good. My favourite part is when Pippi throws the bully Ben into the tree when he shouts ‘Flare hair, flare hair’ at her. She tells lies a lot. Sort of funny lies but also quite naughty ones. I also like the back of the book ’cause there are some butterflies and it’s green. I like green. Who would like this book? A little bit of boys and quite a lot of girls. And my friend Elizabeth.”
